Holly G. Prigerson, Ph.D., Endowed Professor of Diagnostics in Radiology, Professor of Sociology in Radiology, Professor of Sociology in Medicine, and Director of the Cornell Center for Research on End-of-Life Care, will be a panelist at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Grief Awareness Week Webinar on December 6, 2024, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
The webinar, held in honor of National Grief Awareness Week, provides resources for those grappling with pervasive grief. While many experience grief that diminishes over time, some endure intense and prolonged grief. Addressing this critical issue, Dr. Prigerson, an internationally recognized expert on grief, will present “What to Do with the Wounds that Time Does Not Heal?”
Dr. Prigerson has led groundbreaking NIH research, including studies that supported the recognition of Prolonged Grief Disorder in both the ICD-11 and DSM-5-TR. Her work also examines the psychosocial factors influencing end-of-life care and its outcomes.
She will join a panel featuring Glen Lord of Peer Support Community Partners; Dr. Ruby Mendenhall of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; Michelle Palmer, LCSW, a grief specialist; and Dr. Katherine Shear, Director of the Center for Prolonged Grief at Columbia University School of Social Work. Together, they will support individuals and communities coping with intense and long-lasting grief.
