Residencies

At New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, we’re proud to offer world-class residency training in radiology. Our programs combine a rich tradition of academic excellence with hands-on experience at some of the most prestigious hospitals in the country.

Our four-year, ACGME-accredited program prepares residents for success in both academic and private practice settings.

Training is led by dedicated, full-time faculty and takes place across 3 nationally ranked institutions, all within walking distance on the upper east side of Manhattan:

  • The NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has been ranked the #1 hospital in New York and among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for the 22nd consecutive year, earning a place on the 2025–26 Best Hospitals Honor Roll. It is the only hospital in the country ranked in the top 15 in 14 of 15 specialties, with 12 specialties in the top 10 and eight in the top five nationwide. This year, it also received new recognition as a Best Regional Hospital for Community Access for its excellence in caring for underserved communities.
  • Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (#2 nationally for cancer care) is a world leader in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research, and residents are exposed to rigorous training in oncologic imaging, with high case complexity, subspecialty mentorship, and abundant research opportunities.
  • Hospital for Special Surgery (#1 nationally in orthopedics) is a premier destination for orthopedics and musculoskeletal imaging, with unparalleled exposure and variety of cases, ranging from sports-related injuries to complex reconstructive and rheumatologic cases.

Our graduates match into the most competitive fellowships nationwide and go on to become leaders in academic and clinical radiology throughout the country.

We also offer the Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) pathway.

We have been ACGME-accredited for a 5-year Interventional Radiology-Integrated Residency (“IR/DR”). Residents will start their PGY-1 year in the Department of Surgery at NYPH-Weill Cornell Campus before transitioning into our integrated residency program for their PGY 2 yearThe first 3 years of training will consist of Diagnostic Radiology core rotations with some IR. The PGY-5 year will be focused on IR with SICU and vascular lab rotations as well as rotations with our partner institution, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The last year of residency will be devoted entirely to Interventional Radiology training and include rotations at our outpatient vein treatment center.

Our application for Interventional Radiology-Integrated Residency (IR/DR) is available through ERAS and we will be participating in the NRMP match. The current "Interventional Residency Application Process" link is also on this page.

Our three-year ACGME-accredited Nuclear Medicine Residency Program, under the direction of the Nuclear Medicine Residency Program Director, provides specialized training in both diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine.
